Red Dead Redemption 2 is filled with small details, and one player's recent discovery highlights the historical accuracy that goes into them as well.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most expensive games ever developed, and throughout every portion of it, it shows. From the way its open world truly feels like a breathing, living, and changing environment down to the smallest details like Arthur Morgan’s eyes reflecting his surroundings, everything Rockstar Games invested in Red Dead 2 shows.

Perhaps the best part is that Rockstar didn’t run out and brag about all of these little details, with many still discovering new things across every playthrough. That’s mightily impressive given Red Dead Redemption 2 is nearing its 4-year anniversary. Now, one player has shared their recent discovery, something many have no doubt looked over.

Redditor GameBro07 recently shared an image they found visiting the drug shop in Valentine. It’s a simple little bottle with the label “heroin.” Many were quick to jump to Red Dead Redemption 2’s historical accuracy in the comments, as it and many illicit drugs nowadays were used as part of various medications back in the day. So, not only is this a little detail that many fans will go entire playthroughs without noticing, but it just adds yet another layer of research and detail put into Red Dead Redemption 2’s world.

Chances are, there are more labeled bottles like this at other drug shops, but Valentine is somewhat special. Players are able to get in through the back and rob the doctor’s office, should they so choose, and there are a few rewards for this too. While some Redditors talked about the historical accuracy, as well as this, others discussed some Red Dead Redemption 2 characters who were on drugs.

For example, it’s no secret that Reverend Swanson is a drug addict in the game, carrying morphine around in a hollowed-out bible. Both heroin and morphine would have been easy to get over the counter at this time, once again showing how all of these small Red Dead Redemption 2 details come together.

These details alone are proof of why Rockstar will hopefully, eventually begin development on Red Dead Redemption 3. Of course, Rockstar recently confirmed Grand Theft Auto 6’s development, and since that is probably years away, the same can be said of Red Dead Redemption 3. However, should it maintain this same level of detail and accuracy, then there’s little doubt it could be as big as the second game in the franchise too.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
