A 53-year-old Darien man was arrested on a warrant charging him with violating a restaining order after a police officer stopped the man’s car after it made a turn without using a turn signal, police said.

Darien police gave this account of the matter, including accusations not proven in court:

At about 4:16 p.m., Monday, Aug. 1, the officer saw a man drive out of a parking lot at 71 Post Road, and the officer followed his vehicle. After the man turned north onto Sedgwick Avenue, failing to use his turn signal, the officer stopped the car on West Avenue, near Leroy Avenue.

The driver had an active arrest warrant from Darien police, so he was taken into custody. When he was searched, police found a prescription pill bottle holding many pills in different shapes and sizes. Police charged him with failure to keep narcotics in their original container. (Police did not say they charged him with failing to use his blinker.)

According to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website, the man had been charged with disorderly coduct on Aug. 27, 2021 and, in a connection with that case, he was later charged with criminal violation of a restraining order on April 5, 2022.

The man was released on a $500 bond and was scheduled to appear Thursday, Aug. 11 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
