A 59-year-old Ocala man was arrested after he admitted to breaking a window to gain entry into a local residence on Thursday evening.

Shortly before 9:10 p.m., Marion County Sheriff’s Office units responded to a residence in the 6100 block of SW 134th Street in reference to a trespassing incident. Prior to arrival at the home, MCSO dispatch advised that the victim had seen the shirtless black male suspect on a doorbell camera, and the suspect had attempted to enter the victim’s home through the front door.

The male suspect, later identified as David Daniel Johnson, was carrying a large wooden handle that was wrapped in duct tape, according to the victim. Johnson refused to leave the residence, and he proceeded to break a window near the front door in order to enter the residence.

Upon arrival at the incident location, MCSO deputies located Johnson inside the home. He was laying on his stomach in the living room and a wooden stick was located nearby. The MCSO report indicated that Johnson was bleeding from a cut on his leg, and he also had blood on his shorts, feet, and hands.

Johnson was detained by deputies and placed in a patrol vehicle.

An MCSO corporal made contact with the male victim who provided the same details that he had told MCSO dispatch. He advised that he had never seen Johnson before, and he added that Johnson appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The corporal viewed video footage from the doorbell camera and noted in the report that the footage corroborated the victim’s statements.

The corporal searched the residence and observed a broken window next to the front door. Blood was on a rug inside the residence, beneath the window, and blood was also visible inside the living room where deputies had located Johnson on the floor.

Johnson was transported to Marion County Jail. After being read his Miranda rights, Johnson told the corporal that he was cooking food at his home, which is located near the incident location. He advised that he was also drinking with a couple of friends, and those friends had left the residence to pick up some ice.

Shortly after the friends left his home, Johnson claimed that “people showed up and started chasing him with knives.” He claimed that he ran to the victim’s residence and tried to get inside through the front door.

After the victim told him to leave, Johnson stated he was “in fear for his life.” He then advised that he broke the window to get inside the victim’s home “for safety.”

When asked what he was going to do once he was inside the victim’s residence, Johnson stated that he was going to “get a knife and stab them,” referring to the people who were allegedly chasing after him.

Johnson was arrested, and a pill bottle was located in his possession. Inside the bottle, a white power substance was found which field-tested positive for cocaine.

Since Johnson is a registered sex offender in Marion County, he is currently being held at Marion County Jail without bond. He is facing felony charges for armed trespassing of a structure or conveyance, criminal mischief with property damage of over $200 but under $1,000, and possession of cocaine, along with a misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia.

A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
