It’s now easier than ever for local residents to donate their unwanted glasses, empty pill bottles and hearing aids. Holyoke Lions Club recently installed a large sign and drive-up drop box to collect donations at 403 S. Interocean Ave.

A district grant helped pay for drop boxes for area Lions Clubs, and the Holyoke club only had to pay $150 to get one for their local donation program. They also added a sign made by Legg Creations.

Holyoke Lions Club has been collecting glasses, readers, sunglasses and hearing aids from small boxes around town for 20 years as part of a Lions International program. Bob Malesich picks up, sorts and packs these donations that will be sent on to those who need them.

In 2020, Holyoke Lions Club began collecting empty plastic pill bottles that are sent to Matthew 25: Ministries and eventually shipped to developing countries with other medical supplies. Gayla Mayden, who heads up this service project, said it’s helpful to remove the labels before dropping off pill bottles.
